Why Californians Keep Moving To Las Vegas (And Why They’re Not Looking Back)

If it feels like more and more of your neighbors in Las Vegas are from California… you’re not imagining it.

According to StorageCafe’s latest data, nearly 136 people a day are relocating from the Golden State to Nevada—totaling close to 50,000 one-way moves in 2023 alone. And while migration has slowed slightly since the pandemic’s peak, Las Vegas continues to be a top landing spot.

So, what’s the draw?

Lower Prices + No State Income Tax =

Big Wins

The biggest pull is financial. Nevada’s home prices average 42% less than California’s, and renters see a 24% savings on average.

Add in no state income tax, and for many Californians—especially those working remotely—it’s not just a move, it’s a lifestyle upgrade.

Who’s Moving—and Where Are They Going?

According to the report, Clark County (hello, Las Vegas!) claims nine out of the top ten relocation routes from California. Here’s who’s leading the charge:

  • Millennials (over 25%): High-earning and remote-working, many are leaving behind dense metro areas for more space and better value.
  • Baby Boomers (20%): Often relocating for retirement, drawn by affordability and tax benefits.
  • Gen X families (18%): Looking for stronger homeownership opportunities and a better quality of life.

Top Routes from California to Las Vegas

Los Angeles County → Clark County
Nearly 11,000 people made the move in 2023, split between Millennials and Boomers. 46% bought homes, taking advantage of prices nearly 50% lower than in LA.

Orange County → Clark County
Over 4,200 movers, with more than 54% buying homes in their first year. For Boomers especially, the 56% price drop is hard to ignore.

San Bernardino County → Clark County
Around 3,200 former Inland Empire residents moved to Las Vegas, with most starting out as renters. Fun fact: average income jumped from $46,000 to $50,000 after relocating.

What This Means for Las Vegas

This isn’t just a trend—it’s a transformation. The influx of remote workers, retirees, and families is reshaping everything from our housing market to our community culture.

For sellers, it means more motivated, qualified buyers. For buyers relocating from California, it means real value and opportunity—without sacrificing lifestyle.
