Vegas Confidential: A Love Letter To Maisie’s Vet (And Why I Can’t Recommend Them Enough)

This summer, while Maisie and I were in Aspen, she tore her ACL. It was heartbreaking to see her in pain, but once we got back home to Las Vegas, I knew exactly where to go — Dr. Espinosa and Dr. Rokos at Vegas Valley Pet Hospital.

That’s where we learned that Maisie would need surgery and that her recovery would take some time. What I didn’t expect was how personal that journey would become.

A few weeks into recovery, Maisie developed an infection — not from the surgery, but more than likely from me trying to make her more comfortable at home. (If you’ve ever had a dog with a cone, you know the look they give you — and you’d do anything to make it easier for them.)

The good news? Once Dr. Espinosa discovered the infection, he and his team jumped into action. Maisie started visiting the vet daily for antibiotics and wound care. And somewhere along the way, she became a bit of a local celebrity at Vegas Valley. Every time we walked in, she was greeted by name — “Hi Maisie!” — tail wagging, ready for her next round of TLC.

Even during early morning surgery check-ins, when the waiting room was full, we were always treated with patience and warmth. Dr. Espinosa checked in weekly, sometimes more, making sure I knew exactly how she was doing.

Then came the tough part — I had to travel to Maine for my brother’s wedding, and for the first time in a long time, Maisie couldn’t come with me. Dr. Espinosa recommended she stay put and continue care under his watch. And while it broke my heart to leave her, I knew she was in the best hands possible.

When I returned, Dr. Espinosa sat down with me in person to go over her progress — not rushed, not distracted — just generous with his time, expertise, and genuine care.

I’ve had pets my entire adult life, but I can honestly say I’ve never experienced this level of compassion and attention to detail. The staff at Vegas Valley Pet Hospital treat every pet like family, and that peace of mind? It’s priceless.

If you’re new to Las Vegas — or if you’re one of my clients relocating here with your furry sidekick — I can’t recommend them enough.
